What we left behind

What we left behind

“What we left behind” is a photo project developed during a mobility semester. It explores the emotional weight of time, memory, and departure—how repetition and routine can make time feel frozen, and how leaving often becomes a way to escape not just a place, but a stagnant sense of time. The photographs portray a quiet, almost lifeless town—unchanged, familiar, yet distant. There’s beauty in its stillness and memories, but also a sense of being stuck. Alongside the images, the book includes short texts from people who left their hometowns, sharing doubts, hopes, and reflections on what they feel they left behind. This work reflects on the invisible thread that connects us to where we come from—and what remains after we’ve gone.
